When the higher education for the backward and economically weak class of Ramanagara Taluk was out of reach, then President of Town Muncipal Council Ramanagara , Sri Syed Hazi Muneerji took initiative to open a degree college at the cost of Muncipal fund. At that time no one was ready to support him and some unscrupulous persons tried hard to pull the legs of Sri Syed Hazi Muneerji from the idea of opening a degree college. By his ingenuity,he succeded in starting a degree college with the help of Mr. Abdul Samad, Minister of State government who hailed and elected from Ramanagara. As a result of this he was able to get permission to commence Muncipal First Grade College, Ramanagara in 1982 by getting the Bangalore university affliliation. Even after the commencement of the college, it sat on the thorns and had faced obstacles from the TMC counsellors of opposition parties on one hand and faced financial crunch to run the college on the other hand.
By the hard work of Sri Syed Hazi Muneerji, with the support of AC and adminstrator of TMC Sri Ravikumar IAS and then MLA late Puttaswamy Gowda, the college was admitted into government grant in aid. Even then grant in aid was not adequate to run the college.Hence then administrator of TMC and AC Sri Shivakumar decided to hand over the college to Government of Karnataka. Then the college was taken over by the Government of Karnataka with the blessings of then Honourable Education Minister Sri Veerappa Moily.
The Directorate of Collegiate Education under the leadership of Joint Director Smt.Kamalamma took the charge of the college from Muncipality. At the time of handing over the college about 300 students were studying. The college carried out its activities in the same muncipal building upto 2004. Then the college was shifted to new building in the present location.
The present Government First Grade was given a boost during the reign of former chief minister of Karnataka Sri. H.D. Kumaraswamy like new building, canteen and compound wall were constructed. In the previous NAAC assessment, the college was rated as B+. Now the total strength of the college is more than 1939 students with excellent record in both academic and extracurricular activities.
